A devoted dog owner, Michelle Mate, founded K9 Lifeline in August 2005 after watching a mid-afternoon talk show where she saw a dog named Beau which had been rescued by a group in California. The dog had been abandoned and left to die in an old apartment building. He was emaciated, severly beaten and worst of all, someone had cut off the tips of his ears with scissors. This inspired Michelle to initiate a charity and get the ball rolling here in Newfoundland and Labrador to better the lives of canines.
